It is that time of year again - spring cleaning! I have been thinking about starting this massive project for the past several weeks, but because of the scale and scope of the project, I have been delaying a start date. Knowing that I will be having visitors in about 6 weeks to celebrate Josh's graduation from college and also knowing that I am no longer living in an 1100 - 1600 square foot house & can hammer out a deep clean in less than a week, I have decided to start this project today in order to get it completed by the middle of May (when visitors and graduation will commence).
I am planning on it taking me about four weeks to complete - mainly because I will be doing so in between my other regular responsibilities, instead of dropping everything else and just focusing on deep cleaning which is my usual MO. I also like the idea of doing 1/2 - 1 room a day so that I don't get burnt out and can have the patience to go through every nook and cranny.
I know that once my spring cleaning is done, I will feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I also know that I will be thankful that I got it done before the heat of the summer is upon us, as deep cleaning then seems so much harder especially when it takes floors and furniture longer to dry out due to the humidity of the season. I will also be thankful as I am cleaning my windows that I won't have a rush of hot air rushing into my home as quickly as the cool central air is running out of it.
Because I am me, and I like lists - I have made a color-coded list of items that need to be completed in each room. I feel pretty confident that I have written down most of the normal 'to do's that need to be done in each room for a deep spring cleaning, but I am equally sure that there are one or two things that I have slipped my mind. That is okay, as I will just do those items as they come up (even though I won't have the satisfaction of crossing off the items on my typed list).
While I have mentioned above that the task of deep cleaning this house is a bit daunting, I know that it will also feel so good to clean the crevices and purge the items in our home that are no longer serving us.
