Rockaway Beach

With over 300 miles of Oregon coastline our family wants to experience as much of it as we can, so instead of heading back to Cannon Beach we chose instead to hit up Rockaway Beach. We had a great day even though traffic was pretty bad  getting to the beach. (I guess most Portlandians had the same idea that we did in wanting to hit up some waves today.)

We decided that we like Cannon Beach better because it is a bit closer and also because you can explore Haystock Rock at low tide unlike the Twin Rocks that make Rockaway beach well known. We had fun none-the-less and enjoyed another day in this extended weekend.

Twin Rocks

This kid loves nature about as much as I do. He is in his element here catching baby shrimp and some kind of crab and then housing them in Elizabeth's Barbie boat for a bit.

See that huge section of forest missing there? That is what the ENTIRE forested landscape looks like here from all of the logging that is done in this part of the country. While I know that wood is a much better alternative than plastic the sight of all of the trees cut down makes my stomach churn.

So... because we are a homeschooling family and because we don't have a TV anymore and because we are just plain weird, my kids have gotten into the habit of "beach wrestling" every time we go to the ocean. The kids map out a square in the sand and then wrestle. First one with a body part out of bounds loses.

Round 1: Bob vs. Josh (Bob 1 - Josh 0)

Round 2: Bob vs. Josh (Bob 2 - Josh 0)

Round 3: Bob vs. Josh
Josh came back for thirds because he does not handle defeat well. He lost again...

Trying to take dad down two at a time instead of one on one.

Finally, because we no longer have our own pool to play chicken in and we don't want to do it in the community pool. And because the Pacific Ocean is freezing our family is playing chicken in the sand. I know...we are really weird.

The boys finishing up a soccer game before we head home.
