Indian Beach

We took a trip to the Pacific Ocean today to Indian Beach. Bob and I came here once before on our anniversary and found that it was a huge beach for surfers to surf. It was fun to watch them this past fall try and catch a wave. I expected to find some more surfers today, but found none. I am not sure if this is because of the time of year it is, or if because the weather was spotty, or because there was a shark attack at this exact location several months ago. (The surfer survived.)

The day was overcast for much of the time we were there except for the last little part of our stay, and it was well worth the wait. The sun felt glorious. The kids each did what they do best: Andy explored with Bob and created a clay sculpture. Josh played soccer and did some exploring with Bob and Andy as well. Sarah made a clay pot. Elizabeth built a dam or two and tried to find crabs. I took everything in feeling thankful that I got to spend the day with my family and thankful that we are lucky enough to live so close to the Pacific Ocean at this point in our lives.

We all have been working hard lately. Bob doing so at work. Me picking up extra hours at my place of employment and ramping up our school goals/subjects with the kids, and the kids working hard doing school work and their extra curricular activities. In light of this hard work it was nice to be able to play hard as well. I would say today was a success for sure.

It was a pretty stormy day for most of our visit, but as we have gotten to understand intimately, you cannot wait for the sun to come out to have fun. If you did, you would almost never do anything from October thru May.

There were a ton of small waterfalls coming down the mountain and emptying into the ocean. This was just one of the streams created on the beach where fresh water joins salt water.

I think of Finding Nemo when I see anemones.

A storm blew through here last fall that caused a lot of damage along the coast. There were a lot of trees down along the beach.

This area of the beach was newly formed by a mud slide. There was evidence of mudslides all along one side of the beach here.

My crew. Gathering up clay to throw at the wall behind where Josh is standing. They were trying to see who could get it to stick from the farthest out.

Goofing around.

Striking a pose like her brothers.

Building her clay pot.

Fresh water coming down from the mountain.

The tide coming in...

Blue sky!!!

This view is amazing.

Building a dam.

Building a clay pot.

Tide still coming in.

Andy built a clay man taking a pee.

Being pretty daring as the tide comes in. They ended up off of those rocks in about 2 seconds flat when they all almost fell into the water when a huge wave came tumbling over those rocks.

Always a soccer ball...where ever Josh is a ball will be also.

Still working on that clay pot.

All finished.

The sun!!!!

A boy and his ball.

My deep thinker.
